Energy Efficient Homes

As we enter the New Year, one thing most of us have in common is the attempt at a resolution for the upcoming year. Last year, at the beginning of 2016, my resolution was to use less energy. I was inspired for both environmental and economic reasons. Here is what I accomplished:
  • Traded my SUV, which averaged 21 MPG, for a 4-cylinder sedan which currently averages 28 MPG.
  • Installed a Nest thermostat, which has made the house more comfortable as well as more efficient.
  • Switched to LED lights throughout the house, which has saved energy and improved appearance.
  • Converted the outside lights to motion sensors with timers. This allows the lights to only function during evening hours. It also saves energy and makes the home safer.
  • Added WEMO switches. These can be activated from your phone, set to a variety of on/off options, as well as sync with the Nest thermostat.

For 2017, my New Year’s resolution is to continue the quest for a more energy-efficient home. If you have an interest in saving energy and money, please visit the Energy Saver website.
